Love your hunger

Mild discomfort from "hunger"  can happen just a few hours after you've eaten something--even Thanksgiving dinner--so you know it's not a signal that your bodies need nourishment!  We've all read about people on "hunger strikes" or folks who've been lost at sea and survived weeks without food intake.

For us who are already too well nourished, the discomfort starts when the hypothalamus releases hormones that target receptors in the liver.  The gut starts grumbling and feeling "acidy."  Nothing wrong here.  It's a natural, benign process, and the discomfort eases, particularly if we drink some water (which your gut really needs and appreciates, by the way, much more than food).

Next time your stomach growls at 11am or 8pm, be happy!   It's a signal that you're getting thinner by the moment.
